Balancing Two Worlds: Life as a Photographer and a Coach’s Wife

Life as a photographer comes with its own set of challenges—tight schedules, traveling for shoots, editing deadlines—but when you add being married to a professional basketball coach into the mix, things get even more interesting. My life is a delicate balancing act between capturing beautiful moments for clients and supporting my husband through the highs and lows of basketball season.
Planning Around the Season
Basketball season isn’t just a time of games and travel for my husband—it’s also a huge part of my own schedule. While I don’t do much photography for the team itself, I still find ways to incorporate it when I feel inspired. However, my primary focus is on being present, watching the games, and supporting my husband. Because of that, I’ve structured my photography business to work around the demands of the season. I book weddings, elopements, and sessions at times that won’t interfere with major games, road trips, or key moments when my presence matters most.
Juggling Travel and Work
Photography often requires me to travel, and basketball season does the same for my husband. While he’s on the road for games, I’m sometimes off capturing love stories in different locations. We coordinate our schedules carefully, making sure to maximize our time together when we can. It’s a give-and-take relationship where I understand his commitments just as he understands mine.

Finding Moments to Capture
Although I don’t regularly shoot for the team, I’ve captured some great moments when the opportunity presents itself. There’s something special about freezing an intense play or a post-game celebration in time. Those images hold personal meaning for me because they reflect both my love for photography and my support for my husband’s career. When I do take photos, I cherish those moments as a way to blend my two worlds together.

The Basketball Team: A Second Job
In many ways, my husband’s basketball team feels like another job for me. Not because I’m directly involved in coaching, but because I invest so much time and energy into supporting his career. At times, I offer a different perspective, helping him see situations with empathy or challenging him in ways that might benefit his coaching approach. Whether it’s attending games, planning my own work around his schedule, or navigating the emotional highs and lows of wins and losses, my commitment to his journey is unwavering.
Making It Work
Balancing these two worlds isn’t always easy, and while I love my career as a photographer and supporting my husband, it takes real compromise. My dreams and aspirations matter too, and I hope that one day, my path fully circles back to them. I’ve learned that it’s just as important for my needs to be met as it is to support my husband’s ambitions. We are both working toward a balance that allows us to thrive—not just as individuals, but as partners. Some days, that balance feels effortless; other days, it’s a challenge. But through communication, patience, and mutual support, we continue finding ways to make it work.
Making It Work on My Terms
I have sometimes felt like I’ve made an even bigger sacrifice because my heart longs to be by the ocean. My husband's career has diverted my path in ways I never expected, but I have found a way to make my love of photography work for me. I still embrace my love for the beaches by incorporating photographers to work for me in coastal locations like Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, and Rockport. Through this, I stay connected to the places that inspire me the most while continuing to grow my business.

A Colorado Connection
Beyond my love for the ocean, I have another special connection that keeps me inspired—Colorado. My daughter, who shares my passion for adventure and photography, serves as both a travel companion and a double inspiration. She not only motivates me to visit when I can, but she also helps capture stunning moments for clients who want their sessions documented in the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado. Her love of the trails brings fresh experiences to those looking for unforgettable photography sessions. Whether it’s a couple getting engaged, a wedding on Lion’s Peak, or simply finding the perfect backdrop for cherished memories, she helps make it happen.
